Our Story

Terroir started from curiosity. We spent years exploring coffee—tasting, brewing, and understanding what makes a cup truly enjoyable. Along the way, we learned that great coffee doesn’t need to be loud or intimidating. It simply needs to make sense when you drink it. Terroir IDN was created to bring that experience closer to home. We want people in Indonesia to enjoy coffee that feels honest, balanced, and approachable—coffee that fits naturally into everyday life, while still carrying depth and character in every cup.

Why Terroir

Terroir is built on the belief that coffee is the result of many small, intentional decisions—from origin and processing to how it is finally experienced in the cup. We work with coffees that have clear context, honest character, and flavors that can stand on their own without being overcomplicated. Every choice is made to preserve balance, not to chase short-term excitement. For us, great coffee is not about being the most complex or the most talked about. It is coffee that makes sense when you drink it, stays consistent from cup to cup, and feels relevant to everyday moments. This is how Terroir grows: thoughtfully, precisely, and grounded in real experience behind the brew bar.

Terroir.IDN by Terroir Lab marks the next chapter of Terroir’s journey—an expansion into Indonesia built on years of exploration, refinement, and experience. This space carries the same philosophy that shaped our earlier locations: coffee that feels clear, balanced, and intentional, without being overwhelming.Terroir.IDN focuses on making thoughtful coffee experiences more approachable for everyday moments in Indonesia. It is where everything we’ve learned—from Chiang Mai to Bangkok—comes together in a new context, creating a place that feels grounded, consistent, and deeply connected to how people here enjoy coffee.

After Chiang Mai, Terroir’s journey continued in Bangkok, in the historic neighborhood of Songwat. This second space marked a new chapter—faster, louder, and more layered, yet still grounded in the same intention: to create coffee experiences that feel clear, thoughtful, and real.Songwat became where Terroir evolved. Surrounded by culture, movement, and new perspectives, we learned how coffee can exist not only as a drink, but as part of a city’s rhythm. This store was built to explore deeper flavors, push ideas further, and connect with a wider community—while staying true to the quiet precision that started it all.

Terroir began in Chiang Mai, a city where coffee culture feels slow, intentional, and deeply connected to daily life. This first space was never meant to be loud or grand. It started as a place to learn—about beans, brewing, and how people actually experience coffee when there’s no pressure to impress.Here, we shaped our approach: focusing on clarity, balance, and honesty in every cup. Chiang Mai became our testing ground, where ideas were refined, mistakes were made, and our understanding of what “good coffee” truly means began to take form. Everything Terroir is today traces back to this first room, this first bar, and the conversations that happened around it.
